SUMMARY
This beautifully appointed first floor apartment within an 18th century house is located in the small riverside village of Ste. Colombe sur L'Hers, some 30 miles south of Carcassonne. The quiet village once part of the areas vibrant textile and jet industries is well located for outdoor pursuits, historical sites and local vineyards including those of the famous Blanquette de Limoux, said to be the earliest forms of champagne.
The apartment has been recently refurbished to a high standard and will sleep upto four people (two in the bedroom and two on a sofa bed in the lounge).
There is excellent swimming, sailing and canoeing locally at the beautiful Lac Montbel or Puivert  with restaurants adjacent  ( 5-10 mins away).
Toulouse (1.5 hours) and Carcassonne (45 minutes) are the nearest major cities.

YOUR APARTMENT
You access your apartment through your own front door and up 13 steps to the entrance hall .
A fully equipped kitchen/Diner awaits you with oven and hob, microwave oven, dishwasher fridge and freezer.
From the kitchen you can access the large balcony with table and chairs for four people.
Across the hall is the large double bedroom (with space for an extra single bed if required) with fitted wardrobe and drawers plus door to the balcony.
Further down and to the right of  the Hallway is the newly appointed shower room with walk in shower, twin basins and built in washing machine .
The loo is adjacent.
Your spacious lounge with fine views up the valley to the mountains has twin sofas (one a double bed) and WiFi is  available  in here.
There are basic domestic items within the apartment, i.e.  linen, bed sheets, pillows towels etc., Ironing board  and iron, washing powder, soaps, hair dryer, extension lead with 13 amp sockets  for UK  electrical items, eg phone and ipad chargers etc.

THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
The village boasts a small shop (epicerie) which also doubles up as a post office. Large supermarkets are 15 minutes away at Lavelanet and smaller convenience stores in Chalabre (5 minutes). There are colourful outdoor markets during the week in surrounding towns and villages. There are three bars ( some who serve light snacks) in the village including Studio 620, Le Petite Pirate and  Pub Stop cafe. There are several restaurants/bars in Chalabre, Lavelanet and Leran all within easy driving distance.
Summer sees a host of events in the village including, the May carnival, July village fete and the August voisinade where neighbours take over the Petite Rue for a street party and dance. Other villages offer similar attractions through out the summer.
Further afield the area offers a host of other leisure activities including swimming, sailing, mountain bike riding, canoeing, fishing, horse riding and white water rafting. You are in excellent walking country and the long distance footpath once the route of the old railway passes through the village and you are close to the 240 km  long Cathar Way.
The Medieval towns of Mirepoix with its colonnades and cathedral (25 mins) and Chalabre with its grand chateau - open in summer for a host of activities for children - are within easy reach. The mysterious village of Rennes-le-chateau (think the Da Vinci Code) and the little spa town of Rennes-les-Bains with its natural hot spring baths are a must to visit.
Last but by no means least the ruined chateaux of the Cathars (a Medieval persecuted religious sect) perched on steep mountain tops will transport you back to another age - good walking boots are recommended!
And, after all this activity you return to your apartment, relax with a glass of wine and listen to the tinkle of the goats bells as the herds head for home off their hill side pastures.
